Citation analysis of ex-Yugoslav psychology: The impact of foreign authors and international journals

Department of Psychology
Abstract: Following previous studies published by this author under the same main title, the influence of foreign authors and journals on Yugoslav psychology was analyzed. The study is based on all articles published from 1981 to 1990 in all four Yugoslav journals classifiable as both scientific and psychological.
The citation rankings of the authors were related to several top-lists of prominence in psychology, while local impact of international journals was compared with their global impact.
The two comparisons revealed various characteristics of Yugoslav psychology of that period, the main weaknesses being archaism and lack of integrity. The results were discussed in the light of actual dilemmas on the directions of further development of psychology in the present Yugoslavia.
