Associates of CEON/CEES at the roundtable on open access at the Belgrade Book Fair

The Roundtable Libraries, Open Access and Digital Humanities was held on Saturday, 27 October 2018, at the 63rd International Belgrade Book Fair. The roundtable was part of the programme Books Connecting People, organized by the US Embassy in Belgrade and the Serbian Library Association (SLA).

As this year's Book Fair coincided with the Open Access Week, an international event celebrated worldwide for eleven years, the organizers of the programme Books Connecting People dedicated to open access a major section of the programme on Saturday. The section included a presentation of the Serbian edition of the book Open Access by Peter Suber, translated by Gordana Ljubanović, and the above-mentioned roundtable, which followed the book presentation and was moderated by Bogdan Trifunović, Head of the SLA.

The event featured several associates of the CEON/CEES: Pero Šipka, President of CEON, Biljana Kosanović, of the Computer Centre of the University of Belgrade, and Milica Ševkušić, a librarian at the Institute of Technical Sciences of SASA.

Pero Šipka presented the history and development of SCIndeks, as the first local scholarly open access database, and drew attention to some challenges for the further development of open access posed by the violation of ethical and publishing norms. Biljana Kosanović highlighted the significance of Peter Suber’s book in the international and local contexts. She highlightedattention to the Open Society Science Platform, adopted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia in July 2018. Milica Ševkušić argued that the development of open access in Serbia had locally determined specific features and highlighted their relevance in the context of recent international developments in this area.
